For the 2012 Omega Institute’s Yoga Service Conference, Project Surya founder, Joanne OS Qina`au, was awarded a full scholarship and made a Yoga Service Council member. The Yoga Service Council was formed in 2009 at the Omega Institute by a small group of organizations bringing yoga to underserved populations. As the council members worked to support one another, exchange ideas, and envision the future, a collaboration sparked to make efforts stronger and more intentional. Each year the membership of the YSC grows, and the capacity to serve grows with it.
In 2011, Yoga Journal awarded Joanne a full scholarship award for serving communities in need through Project Surya. The scholarship was applied to attend the Yoga Journal Conference in New York. Joanne also served as an assistant teacher for Hiking Yoga during this conference.
